Loch Ness Marathon 2013

The popular Loch Ness Marathon was run from the village of Whitebridge to the city of Inverness today. There was a very good field of runners donating to a wide variety of charities. Morag Cameron -  the owner of Camerons Cottage completed the course.
Well done everybody who took part.

Growing up

The building of the Tea Room and Farm Shop in the far field is progressing well and on schedule. The animals on the farm do not seem to mind the on going work at all and continue munching away. The weather has been fair and warm with very little rain.

Rummy- the working horse from the Isle of happily retired

Pipa the calf was born on the farm in June with mum Iris

Young roe deer

Roe deer with their young can often be seen in the fields by the cottage and in the surrounding area. The mothers are very protective of their offspring and are very aware of every noise....even the click of a camera lens.

Wildlife update

The pheasant chicks are now nearly as big as their mother and are going their separate ways, although this one still seems to think it is still entitled to join the birds at feeding time much to their astonishment. A good hatch of greenfinches this year and the juvenile woodpecker is fending for himself. Swallows are still zooming around and seem reluctant to fly home to Africa.
The young deer have grown well but still stay very close to their mother in the surrounding woodland.
The red squirrels are tearing about during the day and some have recently been seen carrying bunches of hazel nuts in their mouths back to their dreys so possibly a second litter is due. The warm weather has helped everything to survive in comfort as well as offering a bumper food harvest in the forest.

Breeze blocks

The bricks have been delivered and stacked ready to be used for the base structure of the Tea Room and Farm Shop. The weather has been great so much progress can be made.
