Tollie Red Kites

About one hours relaxing drive from Camerons Cottage on the way to Dingwall and just off the main A835 Ullapool road is the RSPB Tollie Red Kite Centre. It is well signposted. Here you can watch the red kites -with their stunning forked tail - being fed daily and perform in the skies above. Great for photo shoots but a steady hand is needed as they do not stop and pose.

Osprey over Loch Ness

An osprey was spotted flying over Loch Ness in the early evening possibly heading back to its nest. It dived into the water but came up with no fish this time. Amazing to watch as it hovers gracefully in the sky waiting for the right moment to dive and impossible to miss with its 5ft wing span silhouetted against the sky.

New life in the woods.

After a quiet period in the woods and garden feeders all the youngsters seemed to have fledged at once, making a lot of noise and mess. They do enjoy the bird bath and splash about like young children at the seaside.
It seems no coincidence that they choose the longest day - with longest daylight hours - to suddenly appear and feed non stop.

Walk from Camerons Tea Room

Park your car at The Camerons Tea Room and Farm Shop in the village of Foyers and walk across the road in to the ungated field opposite.
The Tea Room is only a quarter of a mile from the famous Falls of Foyers waterfall which is also well worth a visit.
Take a pleasant stroll through the wild flower meadow adjacent to the river.
Look out for the large badger setts in the field.
Stroll down to the banks of the river and soak up the peace and quiet.

Keep a look out for 'dippers'...birds who skim above the river but feed underwater.
Various butterflies and insects abound in the wild flowers.
Back to Camerons Tea Room for welcome refreshments.

'The Camerons Tea Room and Farm Shop' opening soon.........

All the Camerons worked very hard at the weekend to get the Tea Room and Farm Shop almost ready to open for business. Advertising banners have now been printed and are ready to be placed in situ.
Three specially commissioned light units made from Red Deer Stags antlers are now lighting up the Tea Room area and look fantastic.
The local signwriter has been very busy inside and outside the Tea Room.
There is plenty of relaxed seating at various tables and a comfy cosy couch with coffee table by the large picture window.
The shop area is starting to be well stocked with food provisions as well as local crafts.

Fridge and freezers are soon to be installed for cold and chilled products.
Various colourful paintings and prints by local artists are on display.
The Tea Room and Farm Shop is just a short pleasant stroll for guests who are staying at Camerons Holiday Cottage.

Walk 2......River walk

This is the walk which starts across the B852 road from Camerons Cottage and Glenlia Farm entrance. Walk along by the side of the river Foyers and then over a bridge which passes over a small waterfall and then past 3 large fields. You can then go straight on and it takes you on a longer walk across the Dell Estate to Whitebridge. Alternatively you can turn right up into the forest. A little way along you can turn right or left. Left takes you to Lower Foyers and then you can climb back up the hill by the falls and come out at the shop although the final drag up the hill is pretty hard work. If you turn left in the forest it takes you further up and you finally get to a viewpoint over Loch Ness.

Walks from Camerons Cottage. WALK 1. Farigaig Forest

From Camerons Cottage on Glenlia Farm - marked on the bottom left of the map as Glenlia Fm - turn right along the farm track and then left along the marked path up into Farigaig Forest. Pass Easter Boleskine wetlands pond on the left and the new build property below overlooking Loch Ness. Walk through the forest to the wee peaceful tree circled loch 'Lochan Torr an Tuill' and rest on the picnic bench. Continue to the high view point overlooking the village of Inverfarigaig. Then stroll down along the forest track and turn right down to Farigaig Pier jutting out on to Loch Ness. Carry on the forest track to access Loch Ness beach and rest on the chairs provided.
Keep going along the forest track to Foyers and home to Camerons.

This walk and the two following were kindly sent to us from guests who enjoy their stays at the cottage and are now regular guests. Perfect walks for dog owners.
